Cedar Grove Frequently Asked Questions
1. I'm thinking about nursery school for my child but my parents do not think schooling is necessary before Kindergarten. How would you respond?
Preschool places children in a healthy, non-stressful environment where traditional play experiences are valued and social graces taught. Children need and desire extended time with child-centered materials and activities in a social environment. In today's culture, children are often forced to grow up faster and are immersed in life that can be stressful and perplexing. Quality early education experiences provide stability and prepare children for school life. Children learn classroom expectations, social skills and independence; all necessary for a successful start to Kindergarten.
2. What is the difference between preschool & childcare?
Our preschool and childcare classes are the same. Both programs are led by a degreed teacher, follow the same curriculum and have the same specialists and field trips. Simply, the hours vary. Our half day preschool children are only eligible to attend from 9:00-11:45 on their assigned days and the class runs a typical school year, September - June. The child care program offers more flexibility. Children are eligible to come any hours 6:30-5:30 and up to five days a week. Childcare students also eat lunch at school, have a rest time and additional hours of enrichment and play in the afternoons.
3. Can I visit the school?
Simply fill out the form at the Apply Now section of this website and someone will call to schedule a tour of the facility. Once your child is enrolled, we encourage you to stop in and visit. We appreciate parent volunteers who help in the classroom, attend trips are share special talents.
4. My child does not take naps anymore. Is that a problem?
We find that most children who do not nap at home will easily transition to a rest time. The new schedule full of activity wears out even the most energetic child. However, children are not required to sleep, only to be respectful of those around them that do need this time to sleep.
5. Are your teachers certified?
Our head teachers hold certificates and degrees as do most of our assistant teachers. On this website, choose the campus you are interested in, then click on Faculty to view each teacher's qualifications. All staff have annual fire safety training and are first aid certified.
6. You are a Christian school. What does that mean?
Our mission and worldview is Christ centered. We are non-denominational and are not sponsored by any church. However, the spiritual aspect of our program is our foundation. We integrate Biblical principals into our curriculum, as well as teach children Bible stories for the value it places in the child's everyday life. For example, we teach "God as the Creator of all things" and "He loves and cares for all people." We also celebrate Christmas and Easter surrounding the life of Jesus. Our teachers are committed to Christ and value teaching from a Biblical perspective. Being a Christian school is our distinctive and along with a quality program, it drives our excellence.
7. What school districts do you serve?
We are located in Boyertown School District right off Route 29. Our before and after school and Kindergarten students come from New Hanover Elementary & Deep Creek Elementary.
8. Are you part of the Perkiomenville church?
No, Red Hill School/Cedar Grove Preschool rents the education wing from the church. While we are a separate entity from Perkiomenville Mennonite Church, we have a strong partnership with them. Many of our furnishings and child toys are shared as well as our outdoor playground.
